How far is the Maasai Mara from Nairobi, and how long is the drive?
The Maasai Mara is roughly 270 km from Nairobi, a drive of 5 to 6 hours depending on road conditions and stops.
The route climbs through the Great Rift Valley escarpment, where we stop at the viewpoint, then continues via Narok.
How many days do I need for a safari from Nairobi?
3 days is the realistic minimum for the Maasai Mara, and 2 days works for Amboseli or Lake Nakuru and Naivasha.
Most of our guests choose 4 to 7 days, which allows two or three parks without rushing.
How much does a safari from Nairobi cost?
Our Nairobi safari packages start from USD 650 per person for a 2-day trip and USD1800 for a 5-day mid-range circuit, based on two people sharing.
Price is driven by four things: number of days, park fees, accommodation level, and group size.
Smaller groups cost more per person because vehicle and guide costs are split fewer ways.
Are park entry fees included in your prices?
Yes. Every quote we issue includes park and reserve entry fees.
For Maasai Mara entry for non-resident adults is USD 100 per person per day from January to June and USD 200 per day from July to December.
Your quote reflects the rate for your actual travel dates.
Is it better to drive or fly to the Maasai Mara?
Flying takes about 45 minutes from Wilson Airport versus 5 to 6 hours by road, and suits travellers short on time or sensitive to rough roads.
Driving costs less, lets you see the Rift Valley, and gives you your own vehicle and guide throughout.
Most 3-day trips benefit from flying; longer multi-park circuits are better by road.
Which park should I choose if I only have two or three days?
Choose Amboseli for guaranteed large elephant herds and Kilimanjaro views, Lake Nakuru and Naivasha for rhino, flamingos and a boat safari, or the Maasai Mara if big cats are your priority and you can commit three days.
Amboseli and Nakuru are both under four hours from Nairobi, which leaves more time in the park and less in the car.
Can you collect me from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport?
Yes. We include airport pickup from JKIA or Wilson Airport on all our Nairobi safari packages, and our driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name board.
If your flight lands in the morning we can start the safari the same day; late arrivals usually overnight in Nairobi and depart the following morning, which we arrange as part of the itinerary.
When is the best time for a safari from Nairobi?
July to October is peak season, when the wildebeest migration is in the Maasai Mara and the dry weather concentrates wildlife around water.
January to March is drier, quieter and cheaper, with Mara park fees at half the high-season rate if the migration is not your priority.
Amboseli and Samburu are excellent year-round.
Will I share the safari vehicle with strangers?
No. All our Nairobi safari packages are private by default, giving you the benefit of flexibility throughout your safari.
How far in advance should I book a safari from Nairobi?
Book 6 to 9 months ahead for July to October travel, when the best Maasai Mara camps sell out and vehicle availability tightens.
For January to June, 3 months is usually enough.
We can often accommodate shorter notice, but your choice of accommodation narrows.
A 40% deposit secures the booking, with the balance due 60 days before departure.
