MAASAI MARA
Located only three hundred kilometers from Nairobi, the iconic Maasai Mara offers no less than one thousand five hundred and ten square kilometers of wild open savanna. It plays host to one of the modern day wonders of the world. All of the big five call the Maasai Mara home. It is just as easy to spot a lion in the Mara as it is to spot one pretty much anywhere else.
The beautiful Maasai people continue to graze their livestock in the wilderness – right alongside the wild beasts they have lived with for thousands of years. The Maasai Mara is part of an extensive eco system made up of eight large group ranches.
Mornings in the Maasai Mara are punctuated by the songs of more than 450 species of birds. Best of all, Maasai Mara can be enjoyed at any time of the year. There is more than one way to experience Maasai Mara. Visitors choose between a game drive, a guided walk, a hot air balloon ride, a visit to a Maasai village, and even a wilderness Marathon. Most tour companies will drive guests from Nairobi to the park. Some guests will choose to fly there instead of driving.
Mount Kenya National Park is a World Heritage Site.
