MOUNT ELGON NATIONAL PARK
Located all the way at the Western border of Kenya, Mount Elgon National Park is unique in more ways than one. This is the only place where you can witness elephants take shelter in caves at night. Rock Climbing is also very popular here.
The landscape of Mount Elgon is varied. You will find thick highland forests, a mature bamboo and podo forest, an area filled with shrubbery and gorgeous native flowers, and finally extensive open moorland grassland. On his grassland are some of the most unique flowers and plants in Africa.
There is a lot you can do on Mount Elgon. Activities include Biking, Camping, Hiking, Mountain Climbing, Game Drives, Rock Climbing and just taking in the scenery.
The park is obviously not as close to Nairobi as the others. Visitors can fly to Eldoret and then drive 70km to Mount Elgon National Park. It is also possible to fly to an airstrip within the park. There is also an airstrip in Kitale; a mere 30km from Mount Elgon. For drivers, there are two routes from Eldoret and one route from Kitale.
There are four campsites and a self catering cottage available in the Park.
